Learn and develop safety awareness and accident prevention through games, songs and stories. Program participants practice bicycle safety on a miniature roadway, take a field trip to the Glenview Fire Department, participate in a bus safety talk and enjoy special presentations by area safety organizations, including our very own Glenview Park District Aquatics department. Our final day will result in one large scene of the zoo, divided into several habitats and incorporating the many animal friends we have learned to draw. Young Rembrandts - African SafariWe will explore the exciting animals that inhabit Africa. We'll draw a variety of animals in various scenes with different mediums. YOUNG REMBRANDTS - CULINARY MISCHIEFOur domestic critters are up to no good in this three-day workshop! We'll use different mediums to create amazing, "can’t-believe-I-drew-this" masterpieces. IGLA SUMMER PURPLE LEAGUEThis league is for rising 4th-9th graders (and qualified 3rd graders) with advanced skills who are looking for practices and games but at a lighter schedule than spring season. Practices will be on Mondays and play games on Wednesdays. This program focuses on teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal development led by positive coaching. Players receive equal playing time and play in all positions. Coaching is provided by high school players and parent volunteers. Required equipment: stick, hard ball, goggles, molded mouth guard and pinny (may be purchased through IGLA for $20). IGLA pinny is required at all games. The Glenview Park District is pleased to partner with Glenbrook South High School coaches for the Jr. Titan Boys Lacrosse Clinic. By instilling a good work ethic, teaching sportsmanship, fostering teamwork and praising accomplishment, the Jr. Titan Lacrosse program is committed to developing players to their highest potential, both on and off the field. Participants are divided by skill level and they will learn age-appropriate skills. Beginners will learn fundamentals such as catching, throwing and shooting, as well as basic terminology of the sport. Experienced players will build upon fundamental skills by working on situational play, competitions and game situations. All participants receive a t-shirt. CREATE A CHARACTER AND BECOME THE STAR!Do you love theatre? Are you interested in being cast in a main role vs just being part of an ensemble? Then this class is for you! Instructor Kristin Cone will use a physical based theatre technique to help students stand out at auditions with confidence and be able to transform into any character. Students will explore characters, different settings, create dialogue and work on a final performance piece.
HOOKED ON CROCHETCome explore a fun, new hobby this summer; Crochet! Crochet is something you can proudly work on alone or with friends and there projects for everyone! Students can expect to learn five basic crochet stitches, which can be applied to create key chains, scarves, blankets and more. Instructor Kristi Miller will provide plenty of side-by-side guidance and will introduce a new stitch or ‘pattern reading’ most days and students will have the remainder of class to choose what practice on individually. Returning students can refine stitches, and work on advanced projects.
MATH MADNESSThis course is for anyone interested in walking off the beaten path and exploring mathematics in ways that don't often occur in classrooms! We will explore the math and some history behind secret messages and codes, learn about the Pythagorean Theorem and use it to solve challenges, discover the Fibonacci sequence and Golden Ratio, investigate how scientists use math, and explore percentages! Students will also study geometry through hands-on explorations, including shapes and angles, tangrams, and formulas pertaining to area, perimeter surface area and volume. This is the perfect class for students looking to extend, enrich or strengthen their math skills!
HANDS-ON ALGEBRAIf algebra is something you are new to, or you want to experience it in a whole new way, then this class is for you! We will use the Hands-On Equations programs to learn how to solve equations; from basic one-step equations, up to multi-step linear equations you would see in 7th grade! We will also learn about how to work with integers and solve equations that have integers and fractions in them. As we learn how to solve equations, we will also explore hands-on activities that involve algebra in the real world. By the end of the class, you will feel like an algebra master! (Please note: this class will focus on beginning and intermediate algebra, not reaching concepts such as quadratics or systems of equations.)
AROUND THE WORLD IN 5 WEEKSIn this fantastic class, students will learn more about countries around the world. It will be like a summer vacation without leaving Glenview! Students will be traveling around the world with instructor Sara Mocogni; exploring countries in Asia, Africa, North America, Europe, and South America. There will be food samples from around the world and students will get to create a project on their favorite country. Everyone is welcome, so come travel with us!
BOARD GAME GEEKINGThis is the golden age of board games and instructor Jason Kieronski knows them all! HIGHER LEVEL BASKETBALL SKILLSFormer college player, AAU coach and current Attea Middle School coach, Scott Zellmann, will help you move your basketball game to the next level. This class will cover: pick and roll basics and reads, higher level attacking dribble moves, 9 finishing moves, offensive footwork, post moves, shooting fundamentals with volume shooting opportunities with and w/o dribbles and more. OUTDOOR ADVENTURESAre you looking for an exciting summer opportunity for your child? Look no further! Patrick Hoeft will be offering a summer school that focuses on fishing, biking and team building. Students will learn necessary skills to fish using a variety of methods. Skills taught for fishing include; lining a reel and fishing pole, tying knots, casting, handling fish, baiting hooks and identifying common fish species. Students will also have the opportunities to learn about biking. Topics will include; bicycle safety, proper helmets, how to change a flat tire and maintain a bicycle. Team building activities will also play a major role in the class. This is the class your children will be talking about at the dinner table! Do not miss out! YOU CAN UKULELE! Come learn how to play the coolest musical instrument this summer! We will start with the basics and progress through more advanced skills such as chord melody playing, fingerpicking, and improvisation. We will also focus on playing in solo, duet, and small groups settings. The music covered in this class will cover everything from folk songs and jazz to popular music on the radio today. Students will learn how to write and perform their own original songs and have the opportunity to share what they have learned in a small concert on the last day of class. THE ART OF SHADOW PUPPETRYIn this class we will explore the ancient art of shadow puppetry and the dynamic expressiveness of the voice. We will begin with adapting narratives into scripts, then explore the dynamics of vocal characterization, design and create artistic shadow puppets, and finally culminate in a shadow puppet performance for family and friends! Students of all levels of experience and interest are welcome.

NUMBER THEORYDo you like puzzles and riddles? Do you often wonder how math is "hidden" in the world around you? Then this course is for you! Here we'll explore how to color maps, solve complex logic puzzles, and how to figure out how to open/close an infinite number of lockers given a pattern (or at least how we could do it)! While this is a "math enrichment" course, there is very little computation and is open to any and all students who want to learn/appreciate math, regardless of level. Students will be exposed to number theory, vertex-edge graph theory, and discrete mathematics in a way that this advanced material can be understood by a typical middle schooler. EXPLORING FRENCHAre you interested in learning French? Want to travel to Europe or French Canada? This fun class is designed for new learners where learning will take place through stories, games, movement, art and more! Students will be immersed in the language from day one and will learn from comprehensible input. Topics might include colors, numbers, days & months, description, and hobbies. We'll practice listening, reading, writing, and speaking and students will learn the language in-context. This course will be taught by Rachel Keck, the French & Spanish teacher at Springman Middle School.

TECHSTARS: CAMP HOLLYWOOD FOR SUPER HEROESDo you want to be the next Anthony Russo? Create your very own Super Hero movie using special digital movie making cameras and software. Work in teams as directors and producers to create the story and script, build various scenes and film the movie. Use graphic editing techniques and stop motion animation, add background noise and music, then show the movie at a private screening on the last day. YOUNG ADVENTURESFind adventure right in your own backyard! Campers enjoy wild sports, crazy games, creative crafts and much, much more! M/W/F campers will go on field trips on Wednesday. Tu/Th campers may go on a trip or have special guests on Thursday. This camp does not visit local swimming pools. Choose a two or three day option or combine both options for five fun-filled days of camp. T-shirt and camp backpack included.Campers must be 5 years old by 6/10/19.
A NEW camp experience with a longer day for 5 and 6 year olds! Young campers will spend the majority of their camp day outdoors with age-appropriate activities and themes. One field trip is planned for some extra camper fun each week! Before Care and After Care is also available for our campers who need an extended day. This NEW program is designed for students of Glenview/Northbrook School District 30 who will be attending summer school during an extended summer break but anyone may register if this meets your schedule. Campers will participate in a variety of activities ranging from sports and games to arts and crafts. For all sessions, campers will embark on two field trips and for those enrolled in the August 12 session, three trips to one of Glenview's outdoor pools will be planned. Every camper receives a camp T-shirt and backpack. Staff-to-camper ratio is 1:10. Non-resident fees will not be applied to this program!
CAMP WILLOWBROOK BEFORE CAREParticipants of Camp Willowbrook have the option of registering for Before Care service at the Northbrook Park District without paying non-resident fees and signing up for bus service provided by the Glenview Park District at an additional fee. In June, parents will bring their camper to the Northbrook Leisure Center, 3323 Walters Ave. and in August parents will bring their camper to Wescott School, 1820 Western Ave. At 8:15am, campers will board a bus with a Glenview Park District Camp Counselor and go to Willowbrook Fieldhouse for camp. Registration for bus service is done through the Glenview Park District and registration for Before Care is done through the Northrook Park District. Information on how to enroll at the Northbrook Park District is available by visiting www.nbparks.org. Note - a minimum of 7 children must be enrolled to provide this service.

We are excited to announce that the summer musical production is going to be MADAGASCAR JR ! Join our talented staff and discover the magic of performing on stage in a musical! Our young actors will spend the day rehearsing the show, which will include acting, singing and dancing. Participating in GCT nurtures creativity while building confidence, positive body image, teamwork and a sense of accomplishment. Costumes, two field trips to theatre performances, a special performance workshop done by professional performing artists as well as a T-shirt and camp bag are included.Campers must be 8 years old by 8/31/19.

X-Treme X-PlorersCampers will experience what the outdoors of Illinois has to offer. Traveling around for outdoor offsite field trips and an overnight sleepover at The Grove are just some of the activities that X-Campers will engage in. Note: Field trip days will have extended camp hours.Section B: Campers must be 8 years old (entering 3-5th grade) by 8/31/19.Section E: Campers must be 11 years old (entering 6-8th grade) by 8/31/19.
Explore the interesting world of nature! The Grove is the ideal place for your little naturalist to learn all about birds, insects, mammals, trees, flowers and more. We'll visit with turtles, take hikes in the woods, and discover animal tracks in the dirt. Staff presents a different theme each week. Staff-to-camper ratio is 1:7.Campers must be at least 4 years old by 5/1/19.
Have you ever been on a night hike or held a snake? Experience nature first hand and discover all The Grove has to offer! Weekly themes will have campers exploring nature with games, crafts and stories. Outdoor Discovery Camp includes an evening session where campers will go on a night hike and enjoy a program around the campfire.Campers must be at least 6 years old (grades 1-2) by 8/31/19.
Make the transition from the lesson tee to the first tee easy! Geared towards the experienced junior golfer, this camp gives your child the opportunity to play 9 holes of golf every day with an instructor who will be emphasizing course etiquette, rules, score keeping, pace of play, and course strategies. Juniors attending this camp must have their own equipment and have at least one year of experience, completed one week of Summer Swing Golf Camp, or completed Holes 1 through 3 of Glenview Junior Golf Academy.Campers must be 7 years old by 8/31/19.
